Bingo Basics
Bingo is a popular game of chance that is played at many casinos or at the local bingo hall. It a fairly simple game where players hold tickets with various numbers printed on them and as the numbers are called they mark them. As soon as they have bingo, they alert the room and that person is the winner of that round.
Bingo Ticket, Numbers and Winning
Bingo is a game that’s played with 90 numbers. The numbers are drawn one at a time and called out as players fill in the appropriate numbers on their tickets. Prior to starting a game, the caller will give the instruction “eyes down” to indicate they are about to commence. An electric Random Number Generator (RNG) is usually used to pick the numbers.
Bingo tickets are arranged in three long rows and nine short columns. The numbers run through the columns with 1-9 being in column one, 10-19 in column two, 20-29 in column four and so on. The final column contains numbers 80-90. Only 15 of the 90 numbers are printed on a ticket and each ticket has 15 blank spaces. Typically, columns have one or two numbers but sometimes they will have three. A row, which has nine spaces, always has five numbers and four blanks. The tickets may be bought in various ways. A single book contains 10 tickets and a multiple book has six single books. Tickets may also be bought on single sheets, flyers, which contain six tickets.

Winning and Prizes
There are three ways to win at bingo. The method by which players may win is designated prior to the start of that game. Bingo games are won by covering one horizontal line (five numbers), two lines (10 numbers) or all three lines, which is known as a full house (15 numbers). As numbers are called, players cover the numbers on their tickets for that game with a liquid marker or dauber. Bingo offers cash and other types of prizes with two and three line games usually carrying the higher rewards. Once someone has bingo, they must alert the room. They do this by calling “bingo” or “yes.” Or they may call out the game they are playing, such as “line” or “house.”
If a player wins but does not call out before the next number is called, then their claim can be and often is invalidated. Once a player has won, they must alert the room before another number is called. After the claim has been made, the ticket is validated and the prize awarded.
Strategies for Winning
The length of a typical game is three minutes. Numbers are called at a steady pace but not too quickly. Bingo is a typical game of chance and all results are random. Still, there are some strategies you can use to enhance your chances of winning.
- Play as many tickets as you can keep track of per game. This increases your chances of winning.
- Keep focused on your tickets as the numbers are called.
- Use a marker that leaves no doubt that the number has been called and you have it.
- Create a system for going through your tickets. Some players will use 10, 20 or more tickets per game.
- Review every ticket after each number has been called and as the game goes on be sure to pay extra attention to any tickets that have one number left before you have bingo.
- Rest your eyes between games by looking off into the distance and also by closing them for a moment.
